There is a lot of confusion in the market about Hybrid Cloud.
Often the terms is used incorrectly to mean multiple types of IT systems being used, some in the Cloud.
This is known as multi-sourced IT or “Hybrid IT” as show by the top bar.
Notice there is not requirement for inter-operability with Hybrid IT
All of the systems operate independently, or using “batch-style” techniques (Eg. for one-time data
migration).
With Hybrid Cloud , a key attribute is the inter-operability between different Clouds.
In sophisticated use-cases this includes dynamic “bursting” (ie. Capacity Augmentation) to extend the
compute resources available to a particular application or process.
In less sophisticated use-cases this might include having confidential data and the application running on
a private Cloud, but dynamically accessing other data in a Public Cloud.
When discussing Hybrid Cloud with customers it is important to establish
(a)If they mean Hybrid IT rather than Hybrid Cloud
(b)What type of inter-operability is required.
