“I know we have talked about this before and even though your status is one of the boys, I wanted you to know that my jealousy has been replaced with admiration and love.”
“To what do I owe this honor?”
“That’s the other reason I called you this morning. Sienna and I finally had a ruckus. Right now I feel like the Elephant Man with aches wall-to-wall.”
“Are you serious? What happened?”
“I confronted her about her report card, which really wasn’t bad, but I became upset when I saw a C. We got into an argu- ment, and I wasn’t thinking when I called myself her mother.”
“I can imagine what happened after that. After all, being her godmother, I taught her martial arts to cool her temper and build up those skinny legs. I guess it worked, huh.
“You don’t have to say that again. We both got kicked sev- eral times in the face and hit the floor. If it weren’t for that sweep you taught me, I would be in the hospital for sure. It was just picture perfect because I did it instinctively. Makes me glad I never gave it up. I don’t mean to brag about sweeping my step- daughter, of course. I guess I’m just glad you also helped me avert disaster.”
“She is not a little girl anymore. And I think we both knew it was inevitable. Besides, there is a reason they call her the quiet terror in school. Ever since her real mother was killed, she has been full of rage. I saw it in her classes and see it in her eyes often. She’s lethal,” Jen. I’m glad you learned so you could sur- vive when this day came.”
“We shook hands, and it seemed like we actually became friends.”
“That’s a good sign. It shows she is starting to actually accept you as an authority figure. Don’t push it. Just go a little at a time. Make sure you tell Seige as soon as you can. After all, she is his little girl, and you don’t want to look like the bad one.”
“Actually, I have already thought of that. But I don’t think she would slant the truth even if he heard it from her first. To tell
