“People may talk about the federal government, but it sure treats us well,” Brock said joining him. “Come on, Seige,” Brock said, “level with me. There’s something wrong here isn’t there. “You can’t fool me.” You’re not the only one who wondered why we were pulled off the case to go to some damn small unit leaders school. The stuff we get here is not much different than the things we already knew or what we all learned in school. I know that’s on your mind. My question is who do you think is at the bottom of this?”
“I hate to speculate,” said Seige, “because I have been wrong too many times. But you’re right about one thing, something’s cooking and I hope to hell it’s not us.”
“Well, our break is almost over. So I suggest we start getting used to keeping our eyes open again. Nothing like school to dull the senses.”
“Good point. In fact, we need to call all the guys in school tomorrow and tell them to be on the lookout for anything suspi- cious at all.”
“Damn, I can’t wait to get back to the jungle where guys like us belong.”
The task force members in demolition school were having similar thoughts. Rick and Mark of the task force rose for their early morning run before anyone else in demolition school.
“Have you noticed that the guys in this school treat us like we had something contagious?” said Rick.
“What do you expect?” said Mark. “They’re just jealous of our experience and don’t want to admit it.”
“I tried to help a few of these guys who were struggling, but they just shirked me.”
“Don’t let them throw you, besides, if they want our help, they can damn well ask.”
“Oh. It happened to you too, huh?”
“Hell yeah. I tried to show one of the guys the mechanics of an electric circuit, and he looked at me like I had just shot his parents.
