“What happened to your leg?” Corin questioned in an un- caring voice, shattering the icy tension in the room.
“I was shot during the last ambush.”
“Where’s Tina?”
“Dead,” came Tom’s measured reply.
Corin’s bodyguards tensed as Corin raised his hand stopping
their motion without taking his gaze from Tom.
“Explain, and this better be good.”
“There was no good; they just massacred us because Tina
wouldn’t listen.”
Tom began to explain how the operation unfolded as Corin
listened unmoved.
“Why are you still alive?” Corin pressed.
“If I had been anything but the driver, I wouldn’t be,” Tom
replied.
“And why should I believe you?”
“That is strictly your choice.”
Deafening silence.
“You remember Marvin, don’t you?”
At that moment, the doors flew open, and Marvin was thrown
in beaten and bleeding to the floor. He slowly got up and was accosted by two guards as he reached for the tape covering his mouth.
“In case you wondered where he was when you went out, he was trying to leave the country,” Corin volunteered.
Tom remembered thinking the same thing earlier and knew Marvin’s fate. A picture of Solomon and Sheba started to move up with the wall panel to his right exposing a room containing two giant anacondas. He looked back at Corin trying to scare him with this spectacle. Marvin was immediately thrown into the cage with the pair of thirty-foot snakes and couldn’t even scream. “This was going to be painful, but quick, Tom thought.
The larger of the two Sheba grabbed and encircled him almost immediately. Tom could hear Marvin’s bones cracking as his eyes
