men in the car looked at her but never moved. He grabbed his chest as the cab sped away, relieving his anxiety. Tom rechecked the area again to make sure no one followed the cab then went back to bed and restless sleep.
The next day, he was awakened by his pager tap dancing across the night table and made the required call. He had time to rise, shower, and eat before two knocks came from her door. He jumped at the knocks knowing it was time but regretting it nevertheless. Tom answered immediately stepping from his dream world. He surprised the two men leaving them outside as he went back to check the apartment. One of the men attempted to look into the room to spot the woman unsuccessfully.
“Thank you, God, for letting me know she got away. There were only two men, and if they are here, they can’t be tracking her. Amen.”
“It’s time to go, “Tom,” one of the men said from outside the door.
“Well, let’s go,” he responded appearing at the door with a smile which startled the duo.
