XII A Good Day All Around
Sometimes you get up and know that this will be one of those wonderful days. For Jennifer Key, this Friday was it. The sun was up early with its blistering heat accompanied by traffic heading for gridlock and a soothing wind. She had just taken her two boys to school, and her mood could not be touched by nega- tive waves. For Jennifer Key, the day couldn’t get better. She was smiling and daydreaming in traffic, already late for work as she coveted her feelings of love.
While she was at school, her boys didn’t want to let her go. The teacher appeared behind them and called to the boys, but they would not let go.
“Mommy has to go, but she will be back soon,” said the teacher.
Jennifer’s knees ached, but letting go had still not occurred to either of them. The boys held steadfast with their mother’s tears flowing down their cheeks.
“Okay,” said the teacher, misty-eyed, “Mommy has to go to work.” She grabbed Randy, the eldest son. Brandon slowly re- leased his grip and wiped the tears from his mother’s eyes.
The teacher finally won Randy’s grip from his mother. “Wave bye to Mommy,” said the teacher, finally holding both boys’ by their shoulders. Jennifer waved as she watched the threesome slowly disappear. When they were out of sight, she turned and slowly walked away with her vision blurred by flowing tears.
She drove away in a dream world not caring if she were late.
