THE HEIST ISSUE
Why make an issue dedicated to stealing, conning,
misappropriating, diverting, and swiping? Because
it’s the best kind of summer reading, that’s why. Every
heist story is about money. But only the best are also
mysteries, and this issue has plenty: the bizarre tale of
50 million pilfered honeybees, a profile of a stolen-art
vigilante, the story of a virtual bank heist in India.
Plus a guide to crypto-skulduggery, a look at a robber’s
toolkit, and more. Enjoy. Just don’t get any big ideas. 45
With help from polling company Morning Consult, we did a little survey, trying to understand
the basic heistiness of Americans (and also how they protect themselves). We surveyed
a nationally representative sample of 2,203 U.S. adults 18+ from June 22-24. The results have
a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points.
