In 1998 I lived in Atlanta, Georgia, going to Art school to hone my fine art skills. One night, I decided to go out with some friends, It was the first time I had gone to a club and heard a house DJ. That’s when I began to go to clubs to dance and listen to my fav DJs.
I was a huge fan of music, raves, the dance hall scene, the underground house scene, the drum, and the bass jungle scene. It was a melting pot of soulful genres, reggae, jazz, cool vocals, bass-on-top-of-bass, chopped breakbeats; all at 165 BPM’s. I didn’t understand the mechanics of what I was hearing, but it was miraculous, and I was.....mesmerized!
So, that was my light bulb moment. I was like, “okay, I need to get turntables.” I was inspired, motivated, and did-not-stop until I got my own turntables that same year. When I got my turntables, I was interested in DJ’ing as a hobby, I had no idea it was going to become a career.
