What is a DJ?
• Technically, a DJ is a Disc Jockey
• A DJ is the person who is the music director for the space, the
VIBE creator. It could be a photoshoot, workout class, or any event. DJ’s are responsible for setting the vibe for whatever the occasion.
DJ Vocabulary
• BPM – Tempo, rate of the musical piece
• Scratching - Pushing the record back and forth, moving the fader on the mixer and producing sound and using it as an instrument
• DJ – Disc Jockey
• Deck – Turntable, CDJ, Controllers
• Mixers – Controls the highs, mid, low and filters
• Effects – (EFX) – Controls sound effects, filtering, and reverb.
• Headphones
• Crates – Stick all records you will want to play that night, a way to organize records
• Fader – Controls the volume from left and right; up and down
• Mixing _ Transitioning from one record to another
• Cueing – Setting the next record up for play
