The landscape outside this
railway carriage springs from some of my own earliest memories of travelling. It is a landscape that is seen as one drifts in and out of sleep, on a seemingly endless journey.
The way the landscape is painted and the symbols for the leaves are very βmeβ β I use them extensively and repeatedly in various paintings ,and have done so over a number of years. Their origins lie in Chinese ink paintings and in the backgrounds of Renaissance works. Over time these hard won images have become a part of my unique language in painting., their meanings can slip and side into a multitude of worlds
