4 southern snowdonia & the coast
FRESH AIR
WITH EVERY STEP
Fill your lungs with fresh air. Feel the outdoors of
Southern Eryri (Snowdonia). Experience dark skies,
mountain ranges and sweeping coastlines. Eryri is
Wales’ largest National Park, a landscape steeped
with culture, history, and heritage, where the Welsh
language is part of the day-to-day fabric of the area.
With its landscape completely changing each season,
rivers, forests, valleys and lakes offer different
activities all year round.
The Mawddach Trail footpath walk and cycle route
winds for 9.5 miles (15km) along the disused railway
track on the southern edge of the spectacular
Mawddach estuary. Whilst the trail can be joined at
several points it starts at the picturesque market town
of Dolgellau and finishes by crossing the iconic railway
bridge over the mouth of the estuary into Barmouth.
The Wales Coast Path has several different routes in
this area; the section from Porthmadog to Machynlleth
is varied, with sections that climb high into the coastal
hills of Snowdonia as well as visiting the numerous
towns and villages on the way, including Porthmadog,
Portmeirion, Harlech, Bermo/Barmouth, Tywyn,
Aberdyfi and Machynlleth.
