Cadair Idris, rising above Dolgellau, is one of the most
iconic mountains in Wales - a rugged National Nature
Reserve with glacial lakes, wooded valleys, and deep
roots in local legend.
The Mawddach Trail offers a gentler route - a 15km
foot and cycle path along a disused railway line from
Dolgellau to Barmouth, ending with views across the
Mawddach estuary.
The UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere is a unique area where
nature and community thrive together. Stretching from
the Cambrian Mountains to the Cardigan Bay coast, it
encompasses diverse landscapes - salt marshes, peat
bogs, woodlands, and estuaries - that support a rich
variety of wildlife, including ospreys, otters, and red kites.
Beyond its ecological significance, the biosphere
celebrates and promotes sustainable practices and
conservation efforts.
