Throughout the National Park you might be lucky
enough to see some of the protected and rare birds,
animals and plants.
The Brecon Beacons National Park is full of wonderful
reserves, woodlands and grassland for you to explore and
enjoy the wonders of nature.
National Nature Reserves that are easy to get to include
Craig-y-Cilau near Crickhowell, Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad
southwest of Brecon and the Brecknock Wildlife Trust's
Pwll-yr-Wrach (The Witches Pool) near Talgarth.
Wherever you go, remember to follow the Countryside
Code and do your best to avoid disturbing any wildlife,
plants or natural features.
The Curlew is the UK’s largest wading bird, brown with
streaky feathers. It has a distinctive long curved bill and
long legs. The National Park Authority is working to protect
them, and that will help other species and habitats as well.
Curlews come to the National Park to breed in the spring
and summer months. They gather around locations
including Llangors Lake and other breeding sites in the Usk
Valley, where they will get into condition prior to pairing up
(they are faithful birds).
