Where to eat.
Brecon is home to the famous and delicious Llanfaes
Dairy Ice Cream p67 much loved by locals, you can relax
in their parlour with a coffee. After walking in the hills you
could treat yourself to the best burgers at Hills p66, the
national burger award winners of 2022 (booking essential)
or admire the lovely views while you enjoy a meal in the
bistro or restaurant at The Castle of Brecon Hotel p74.
Nearby Trecastle offers the Castle Coaching Inn p64 and
your favourite pub classics alongside contemporary twists.
Alternatively, visit the cosy International Welsh Rarebit
Centre p71 in Defynnog and discover the Welsh delicacy.

If you prefer to admire the views from the water, climb on
board the Dragon Fly Cruise Boat p54 at Brecon canal
basin for a gentle cruise up the 224 yr old Monmouthshire
and Brecon Canal, you might spot a kingfisher along the way.
Gentle, traffic free cycling is available along the tow path.
You could join an expert guide with transport for a day of
humorous tales, outstanding scenery and create a really
memorable experience with Welsh Overland Safari p45.
To stretch your legs, leave your car in town and take a
T4 bus from Brecon up to Storey Arms (the highest point
on the road over the Beacons – from there (from the
National Trust car park) you can take the well trodden, and
extremely popular path up the highest hill in South Wales
- Pen y Fan. There are less crowded routes in the hills on
both sides of the road, or you can follow the Taff Trail p6
8.2 miles downhill back to Brecon.
