What?
Red Kites and Buzzards
The red kite has a forked tail
and large white patches under
the wing tips. The Buzzard has
a rounded, fan shaped tail and
is striped white and brown
beneath.
Where?
Across the National Park,
most often seen over uplands.
What?
Dragonflies and Damselflies
Dragonflies are larger, stronger
and direct fliers. Damselflies
are much smaller and have a
weaker, fluttering flight.
Where?
Ponds, bog pools and streams.
What?
Otters and Mink
Otters can be over a metre
long, have long tapering tails
and broad muzzles. Mink, an
invasive, non-native species,
are less than half a metre long,
with rounded fuzzy tails and a
pointed muzzle.
Where?
Streams and rivers.
What?
Kingfishers
Kingfishers flash electric blue
along brooks and rivers, diving
for fish. Elusive, fast, and
beautiful.
Where?
Areas that have fish, calm water
and overhanging branches.
