The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal runs along the
valley from Brecon and you can holiday on board a boat
from Beacon Park Boats p52 based in Llangattock - just
over the bridge at Crickhowell.
Drive to Goytre Wharf from Abergavenny where you can
enjoy a community run boat trip along the canal with
Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal Trips p53 – places are
allocated on a first come first served basis at the Wharf.
What to do.
Easy walking from Crickhowell along the canal. Drop into
CriC p41 and pick up a “Cracking Walks” booklet and
choose between easy and moderate or energetic and
strenuous walks.
From Abergavenny, The Skirrid, The Blorenge or the
The Sugar Loaf hills all offer walks - ask in the Tourist
information centre for directions.
Culture vultures will enjoy a visit to St Mary’s Priory and
Tithe Barn in Abergavenny. Both towns have a ruined
castle and you can walk/picnic in the fields by the river at
both. If you fancy a scenic drive, consider a trip from
Crickhowell to Talgarth - visiting the lovely, medieval
Tretower Court and Castle en route.
Alternatively, drive through the Llanthony Valley towards
Hay-on-Wye via the romantic, ruined 13th century
Llanthony Priory.
