With connections to Cardiff by road and rail, Merthyr
Tydfil is a great place to start exploring.
Merthyr has a place in the industrial story of South Wales,
grown from mining and steel Cyfarthfa Castle and Park
p61 is open to the public. A big park with lakes, trails and
a wonderful little museum.

What to do.
Merthyr and the surrounding area offers loads of activities.
Start at Cyfarthfa Castle and Park p61. The park with
lakes and trails, and the quirky little museum where South
Wales history sits beside Egyptian artefacts. You can book
to visit Joseph Parry’s Cottage, birthplace of one of Wales’
best known musicians and composers responsible for
‘Myfanwy’.
