Just outside Merthyr, Bike Park Wales p64 is home to
mountain biking and gravity mountain biking – for anyone
from novices to experts there are a wide range of trails and
they offer tuition and a lift back up the hill for another go.
Brecon Mountain Railway p54 – experience a trip back to
the days of steam on a restored line running through the
Brecon Beacons National Park, enjoy lovely views and visit
the tearoom, and the workshop that looks after the steam
locomotives. The Santa specials at Christmas offer children
a magical ride to meet Santa – always book ahead as they
are extremely popular.
Full of an amazing range of outdoor adventures
Parkwood Outdoor Centre p70 in the hills near Merthyr
offers water-based adventures on Pontsticill reservoir as
well as caving, bushcraft, rock climbing, even crate
stacking to test your balance.
The popular Zip World Experience back cover at the old
Tower Colliery mining site just outside Merthyr offers
different rides above the pools and pit workings. Nestled
in the Rhigos mountain range and boasting stunning
panoramic views. The thrilling rides will see you soaring
over beautiful Welsh countryside and on some rides you
could be travelling at over 70mph! There is a café on site.
