CAMPAIGN Spring 2022
BNTVA Conference Reunion
and Exhibition 2022
The BNTVA Conference Reunion and Exhibition entitled “From Plym to Pamlico” will take place at the Q Hotel, Ashford International, Kent, from 2-6 October 2022. This will coincide with the 70th anniversary of Operation Hurricane.
On 4th October we will meet at
St Barbara’s Garrison Church, Chatham, for a service led by the Rev Nicholas Frayling to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the first Commonwealth atomic test.
St Barbara’s Garrison Church contains a memorial to Sapper Frank Furlong, from Mountain Ash, South Wales, who passed away on
13 October 1952, aged 30, at the Monte Bello Islands after Operation Hurricane, following an accident. Frank is laid to rest in Onslow, North Australia.
The service will be followed by the launch of a six-month exhibition organised and curated by the BNTVA at the Royal Engineers’ Museum in Chatham.
The exhibition will be open to the public for the duration to commemorate the British participation in the Commonwealth and foreign nuclear tests, including Operation Dominic.
Throughout our time together in Kent, we will be joined by academics, students, nuclear history experts and creatives. Further information will be revealed in the next edition.
