Immediate
Promote the sector and highlight the core
elements that facilitate effective recruitment
and retention. Such as:
• Valuing the role of the carer
• Amplify the job satisfaction in recruitment
processes (66% of Care workers say their job
gives them a feeling of work well done.) 1
• Changing the current sector perception
• Supporting and valuing staff
• Staff benefits and incentives
• Improved shift patterns and workload 77% of
social workers say that having too much work
or not having enough time to do it causes
stress at work. Half state they have to work
over 40 hours a week. 1
Narrow the gender gap, develop and improve
ways of attracting more males to the sector.
Ensure parity of access across Public & Private
sector to:
• Training
• Equipment
• Assessment

Pathways to leadership and management/
senior medical professionals etc, Degree
Apprenticeships is been asked for to mitigate
GP and Consultant shortages
Overcome the Welsh Language barrier to
recruitment.
Plan for potential competency change with a
shift away from reactionary healthcare to
proactive. Skills identification and strategy is
required for this shift.
Ensure the appetite of pre 16 in the subject area
is carried on into post 16 education.
Work Readiness, there is a huge appetite and
willing employers who can host work
placements. A work placement system is being
requested.
Remove perceived barriers to training (40% of
social workers think there are barriers to
accessing training at work.) 1
Workforce strategy plans seem to be
working, (more health care
apprenticeship starts in 2023 than 2022)
Ensuring a workforce strategy is in place,
targeted and measured is a vital element
to helping with the current skills shortage
and future skill identification planning
The below priorities need to be in the forefront
of Employers, Education and Local Authority
thinking when developing plans and workforce
strategies.
