Health & Social Care
In terms of employment, this is the largest sector in the region with well over 45,000 currently employed and this figure is set to continually rise.
In addition there are many educational pathways available, many of which are funded for you where you can learn as you earn and not be saddled with student debt into your adult life. The Welsh Government has announced £1.8 million to support health and social care students.
Why choose Health and Social Care? (H&SC)
Let’s face it: H&SC has an unfair image problem. True, entry-level pay won’t make you rich, the work can be demanding and you’re unlikely to bump into anyone famous at work. But that’s not the whole story.
Health and Social Care is fulfilling and meaningful work
Simply put, H&SC is enormously rewarding. The vast majority of H&SC professionals are happy in their roles, partly because their work is meaningful and impactful and that’s a perk money can’t buy. However there are funded educational pathways that can provide both high wages and fulfilling work. Starting out in the H&SC sector isn’t a cul-de-sac. On the contrary, it is an excellent introduction to a long-term career in the healthcare industry. For example, many people work as carers before transitioning into nursing or management roles; some even go to medical school and become doctors.
In summary there are many benefits from joining this sector such as:
• Helping others and improving your core fundamental skills
• Careers that are in demand in our region
• Jobs for life with great progression options
• Easy and inexpensive to get started
• A wide and diverse range of jobs available
Did you know?
There is a wealth of other skills that H&SC really need.
• Scientists, Biologists, Laboratory
• Engineers - Patient Diagnostic (machinery operation and configuration)
through to Buildings Management and Maintenance
• Digital Services – Patent Monitoring, App Monitoring & Development, IT & Computing,
Data Analysis, Robotics, VR development for safe training and improved patient care.
• Research – Evidence Services, Consultancy and Advisory roles
To name a few.
So no matter what interests you, caring, nursing, management, surgery, sciences, engineering, analytics or computing there is a fulfilling job roll for you in H&SC.
