We are lucky to have a great,
unsung, backroom team at Gwernyfed.
We are in good hands.

Another season passes by and excitement gathers as the new campaign beckons. As a farmer
I study the rhythms of the seasons and, as someone steeped in our wonderful game, I inevitably
couple rugby with farming so that I can watch as much of the game as possible.
Last season, I wasn’t able to watch much local rugby
as a result of some indifferent health. Things are
now looking brighter and I hope to be able to get
along to Trefecca Road in the coming season. I do
keep in touch with results and progress each week
and am briefed from time to time by Des Parry and
Peter Weavers.
Congratulations are due to the First XV and their
coaches for a great season in the new division and
the same goes to the Ladies XV and their own
coaching team - the latter facing long trips on
Sundays but always putting on a great show.
In many ways the most pleasing feature of the
23-24 season was the sight of a healthy Athletic XV
playing over a dozen games in the true spirit of the
sport. Well done, lads.
When I pass by on a Sunday morning or Friday
evening to see dozens of girls and boys practising
their skills, it lifts my heart – those youngsters are our
future and I commend everyone selflessly putting
their time aside for the future of Gwernyfed RFC.
I remain hugely impressed with the energy and
enthusiasm demonstrated by what is in essence a
voluntary organisation. The players and coaches
rightly claim the limelight. However, the ‘backroom
team’ is fundamental to any organisation and we
are lucky to have a great, unsung, backroom team
at Gwernyfed. We are in good hands.
I wish you all every success and great enjoyment
from a game that has been one of the great loves
of my long life.
