 In real terms thePerichoresisis a wonderful definition of an intertwining, insoluble, interweaving, and inter-connectedness that is choreographed like dancing partners that are fully penetrated into each other?s consciousness.
In the Western Protestant Trinitarian Theology, we tend to start with The One God, and then dissect The One into Three. In the East, they start with Three in One and Three as One, and stay there.
When we see one Person of the Trinity we see thePerichoresisof the Three Persons of the Trinity. Our hearts faint at the mystery and our minds crave a simplified explanation; but there is none. We must be warned, that to try to simplify God, for the sake of clarity, creates a god who is not God.
Thankfully, we can rest in a deeper and more precious Truth. We have the Incarnation.
We see "The Ultimate Revelation of God" and the "Only means of Knowing God" given in the Incarnation.
Without the Incarnation we cannot "see" God. We get lost in the mystery and end up with all kinds of modalism?s. If we want to know what God is like in a way we can relate to, we ?see? Our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ is God making Himself ?see- able?to us by becoming a man.
This is so important because if we ?see?the pre-Incarnate revelations of God in the Scripture they are incomplete until the coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It isonlyin the Incarnation that the ?fullness?of God can be ?seen?. There is no revelation of God to man that can be complete outside of the Incarnation.
So when these dear men came to Philip they were touching on the most important revelatory reality in the history of the Universe; seeing GodinChrist.
They longed for the present Christ on the earth, whereas we long for the present Christ by the Spirit.
Perhaps the most profound, unutterably wonderful and fearful sacred Symbol of this Incarnation as an ongoing ?by the Spirit?reality, is in the taking of the bread and wine as we ?remember Him until He comes?. The Communion Service, The Lord?s Supper, The Eucharist, or The Breaking of Bread is given to us so that as a group of believers we can be still, be quiet, and meditate upon the majesty and richness of the Incarnation and its meaning.
As the promised presence of the Son of God becomes a reality, as we meet together in His name, we see Him. We see Him symbolically as we consider His suffering on our behalf. We see Him as a reality, not as a projection of the dominant value system of the Age. We see Him as the Revelation of The Triune God.
Eucharistic Socialism is: Fighting our way through the fog of totem- pole manifestations of Jesus and coming, with trembling yet joyful hands, to hold the Cup and to ponder the sacred Symbols of His true, real, and actual life, which is revealed to us in His Incarnation in the Scriptures.
