She knew Bannon did not like these words. They appeared to insult him and symbolize his own failings when it came to the most powerful man in the land, if not the world, Donald Trump, President of the United States of America.
Her inner voice kept talking. “Calm down Mia, you heard nothing. You ran like a ridiculous little kid caught doing what? Snooping? Hardly a big deal. But Mia, your actions reflect on the catering company you work for. Have you forgotten what this does to Gilles’ reputation. He will never get another catering job again.
“Oh no, oh no, oh no, and what about Gilles’ restaurant? Will rumors fly, and no one will come to this perfect Manhattan food treasure where morsels of perfectly tasting nourishment is given to sustain the body and soul.”
As the New York Times food critic described Gilles’ dishes: “Simple food prepared with love and care fit for the angels, offering divine dishes of fresh fish, organic beef, pork, game, and chicken, fit for the gods, delectable, mouthwatering, heavenly, savory, delicious, tasty.”
The Mercer Costume Party was launching Gilles’ catering business and showcasing Mia’s skill as a creative master of the hors d’oeuvre. She had devised and perfected, to her great surprise, a tremendous hit called “Mia’s Eight.”
This hors d’oeuvre created by Mia, was extremely popular. “Mia’s Eight” was a version of rumaki: plump, tender chicken- liver morsels infused with garlic, soya sauce and sweet sherry, stir fried, cooled, and tenderly wrapped and skewered in partially cooked bacon and finished in the oven. She was a diehard, life-long recipe reader, and from her reading she
