Schools must have a good behavioral threat assessment and management (BTAM) process in place, even when instructional services are being delivered remotely. A quick overview of the essential components to an effective BTAM process will be highlighted. The remainder of the session will focus on how to conduct virtual threat assessments and manage concerning behaviors during times of remote instruction.

School Justice Partnerships: How to Use Restorative Practice to Improve Student Safety & Success

School-Justice Partnerships have been replicated in 41 states to improve school safety and reduce juvenile crime using restorative practices in lieu of exclusionary disciplinary practices. Participants will learn the what, how, and why using a toolkit designed to build a SJP that consistently reduces drop-out and juvenile crime rates in communities across the nation.

The U.S. Secret Service (USSS) National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) will present on its recent publication, titled Protecting America’s Schools: A U.S. Secret Service Analysis of Targeted School Violence. This study, published in November 2019, represents the most comprehensive analysis of targeted school violence ever produced. This session will provide an overview of the study’s findings and the recommended best practices for preventing targeted school violence.
