MEET YOUR PRESIDENT
Joel Silverfield, MD, was installed as the 118th President of the HCMA on May 11th during a small private reception at his home.
Dr. Silverfield was born at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated medical school and did his internship and residency at Emory University in Atlanta. He also met his lovely wife, Nancy, there while she was in grad school. They moved to Tampa in 1982 where he and Nancy raised three sons.
When asked if there was something he felt no one would ever guess about him, Dr.
Silverfield shared that he got his start in Tampa as the official doctor for “The Showmen’s
Freak Show” performers and ended up as a physician for Ringling Circus. He currently
practices internal medicine and rheumatology within the BayCare system. In addition to his busy practice, Dr. Silverfield is also an antique collector and appraiser – a passion he has enjoyed all his life
His goal as HCMA president is to cement the HCMA’s position and mission, serving as the advocate for not only all practicing physicians in our communities, but also those in surrounding counties as the Association expands its membership to represent a larger voice on behalf of medicine.
