CHRISTIAN MEDITATION

An exercise and a form of prayer in which we try to understand God’s revelation of the truths
of faith and the purpose of the Christian life, and how it should be lived, in order to adhere and
respond to what the Lord is asking.

Meditation is above all a quest. The mind seeks to understand the why and how of the Chris-
tian life, in order to adhere and respond to what the Lord is asking… To meditate on what we
read helps us to make it our own by confronting it with ourselves… To the extent that we are

humble and Faithful, we discover in meditation the movements that stir the heart and we are
able to discern them… Meditation engages thought, imagination, emotion, and desire… This
form of prayerful reflection is of great value, but Christian prayer should go further: to the
knowledge of the love of the Lord Jesus, to union with him.

In this program you will find information on different forms of Christian Meditation:

rament & the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

         LECTIO DIVINA (REVERENTIAL READING)

         Follow these 5 steps:
         1. Lectio (reverential reading) we are attentive to hear a word or verse that God wishes
         for us to embrace
 Read the passage slowly once
 Reread it and underline or make note of the words or verses that speak to you.
 Ask yourself: What does the text say? What is going on in this Bible passage?

         2. Meditatio (meditation) we are pondering the word of God as Mary did in her heart
         (Luke 2:19)Ask yourself::
 What is God saying to me through this text?
 How is this text speaking to my personal life?

         3. Oratio (Prayer) we are having a conversation/dialogue with God. What do I want to
say to God in response to this text?

         4. Contemplatio (contemplation) we are resting in the presence of God. Simply “be” in the
         presence of God

         5. Operatio - (Faithful Witness in Daily Life ) How will I respond? What is a concrete
resolution I can make to grow in a particular virtue that flows from this time of prayer? How
can this time of prayer radiate out from heart into my actions? What might God be asking of
me? Be specific. Be concrete. Make it as measurable as possible.
