WE COOK. WE DELIVER.
WE TEACH. WE CARE.
What started as a
simple act of kindness
quickly became a
labor of love.
Open Hand came to be 30 years ago when a small group of
friends gathered to prepare and deliver home-cooked meals
to 14 neighbors who were dying from and disenfranchised by
HIV/AIDS. Today, we are one of the largest community-based
comprehensive nutrition agencies in the country.
Powered by effective partnerships and over 10,000 dedicated
annual volunteers, we now prepare, pack and deliver over 6,000
meals each day to thousands of our friends and neighbors
living with virtually any nutrition-sensitive chronic disease,
homebound seniors and at-risk youth and families.
Helping to reduce the impact of chronic disease
Open Hand’s mission is to help people prevent or better manage
chronic disease through tailored nutrition interventions. These
include a wide variety of health-promoting meal plans as well as
nutrition counseling and coaching delivered by an experienced
team of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists.
Open Hand provides our clients with the highest quality nutrition
available and we eliminate access as a barrier by delivering
healthy meals, at no cost, directly to their door. Whether they
are chronically ill, homebound, disabled or simply at high risk for
chronic disease, we teach and empower them to make healthier
food choices for themselves and their families, so they are better
prepared to face the life challenges ahead.
