P. 131

At this level, we begin to make a distinction between the innovation and ingenuity stages. Innovation is where the learner interrogates their understanding to come up with a concept or concept framework of how that understanding might meet the original need or opportunity. Ingenuity is the process of physically creating the product, system, environment or media to meet the need or opportunity that was identified via the innovation stage.
The learner will constantly be going back to the initial stages of the Learning Process to find additional knowledge, and they may well develop additional ideas and concepts, which they require to develop their innovative solution. The learner is constantly shifting their focus between building new knowledge, ideas, concepts and concepts frameworks so they can be innovative, and eventually, ingenious.
Resource 59: The Learning Process: Level 2
The two different sets of diagrams outlining the Learning Process are intended for different ages of the learners and it is up to the educator as to which is the most appropriate. Somewhat surprisingly, or not, secondary level learners, in general, seem to like the more animated superhero diagrams as much as the junior school learners do!
