Addressing the106 Crowded Curriculum
Why is learning so important? To put it simply, understanding how to learn is now the most important capability we can gift to anybody. Not only does it fulfil the need generated by our curiosity about the world that we live in, but it is also fundamental to our life, relationships and workplaces we inhabit, where businesses and schools expect young people to be competent and know how to learn ‘on the fly’. Becoming an independent, lifelong learner assumes we know how to apply the Learning Process, as this is foundational to living both a fulfilled and a successful life.
The myth that exists out there is that just by having a smartphone we are instantly intelligent as we can access information, but this is nonsense, as accessing knowledge is just the beginning of the Learning Process. Finding knowledge is easy. Phase one of the learning process is interrogating that knowledge to build ideas, and then applying our ideas to different contexts to form a deeper understanding that allows us to form concepts.
Phase 2 of the Learning process involves our capacity for creativity. Once we have collated our knowledge, ideas and concepts, we can then do something with them. Almost every business is now looking for innovative and ingenious applications to take to the marketplace, which meet the needs and opportunities within every community.
In a world of rampant change, new needs and opportunities are arising every day.
Increasingly, economies around the world are making a transition from factory labour to automation, robotics and local supply of bespoke goods, created via 3D printing or artificial intelligence-powered robotics. These emerging technologies allow us to create the clothes and consumer goods we want/need and then drop- shopping processes will then deliver your bespoke products (see video below).107 Warehouses of goods that companies make just in case they are needed will be replaced by people ordering their products online or in revamped malls where they can order bespoke items made to your precise requirements.
