NEWS FROM HOME
OOs Freddy Goddard (G 18), James Glover (Sc 91) and Andrew Appleby (Sn 93) at the Chute Cricket Club six-a-side tournament
three of the 36 players spanning a couple of generations – namely Freddy Goddard (G 18), James and Andrew Appleby (Sn 93). Freddy was on the winning team!
Chris Richards (St A 64) visited Oundle earlier in the year and was amazed at all the major works going on for the new Sports Centre. He has since been elected as Chairman for the Surrey Heath Conservative Association, with his MP being one Michael Gove! Interesting times, not least with the leadership challenge in which Gove took part.
John Williams (St A 62) reports that the OO Weald Walkers meet every few months, when he visits from Haifa in Israel, where he lives. He sees Bev Boag (St A 60), John Richardson (St A 61) and Martin Boag (St A 62), as well as Tim Watt (St A 61) and John Horton (Sn 62) occasionally at Sussex and Surrey venues. They walk come rain or shine and then have lunch at the best pub (which has set the site for the walk all along anyway!). John adds that his son, Dan Williams (St A 90), works for Reuters in Jerusalem, while
Ernest Winocour (St A 46), who is in his 90s, still teaches genetics at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot and sails on the Mediterranean.
David Kidd (Sc 72) is still with Egon Zehnder, but is soon to retire after almost 30 years and is living in West Sussex. He sees Mike Pringle (C 75) regularly and had an excellent dinner with Simon Turner (Sc 72) and David Robinson (Sc 73) recently, which has led to a ‘72/73 School House leavers’ dinner at Grocers’ Hall in October.
David Bevin (Sn 79) is currently designing the new, revived children’s series Crackerjack for the BBC. He is sure that many generations would remember that series as children!
Guy Bainbridge (Sn 78) is currently enjoying his first year of retirement after leaving accountancy firm KPMG.
David Northcroft (B 58) reported that it was hard work getting back to running fitness after a three-year break and he is preparing for over- 80s road-racing next year!
Colin Loveless (S 49) reports that he and Jill are still living in the house they built 46 years ago in Slindon,
West Sussex, and would be pleased to meet anyone from the ‘45-49 era who happened to be passing that way. Recreation these days is mainly walking on the Downs, together with some not-too-energetic swimming and visits to the local pub. His brother, David Loveless (S 55), and his wife, Gail, who live in Florida, visited for Christmas and they enjoyed reminiscing about their days in Sidney at the time of ‘Tub’ Shaw.
Brian Infield (D 43) still soldiers on and gets around a bit. He has invested in an electric bike, so cheats a little! He went on a very enjoyable Rhine cruise and planned to visit Santiago de Compostela with his daughter in September.
Will Robinson (G 92) is still serving
in the Army and about to relinquish command after a thoroughly
enjoyable 21⁄2 years. He deploys
shortly on operations and is still
waiting to find out his next posting
upon his return. The family – Kerstin, Holly and Jack – are all doing well
and enjoying life in Kent. Last year
he bumped into James Cullinan (G
92), who was also on good form. www
