enjoy my last six months of ‘freedom’ working for a maritime security company in Hong Kong. I commissioned into the Irish Guards in 2015 and have spent most of the past four years either on various cold, wet and windswept training areas, swanning around London in a bearskin or enjoying an occasional deployment to Kenya, Belize, Sierra Leone or the Falklands. I am leaving the Army – until the company I am hoping to start flops...at which point I will probably have to rejoin. I maintain a close group of Oundle friends, whose topic of conversation still usually revolves around what happened at the School 10 years ago.
Calum Lindsay: After an eye- opening year off working and travelling in Hong Kong and South- East Asia, I went to study and rediscover my Scottish roots in Glasgow. I then spent a year teaching English to high schoolers in Japan, before returning to London for a master’s in Film at King’s College. I now split my time between production and unpaid amateur psychotherapy for troubled Old Oundelians. I am currently trying to find a girlfriend with decent film industry contacts.
Alan Liu: After leaving Oundle, I went on to study Medicine at Imperial
College London. During my medical studies I developed a strong interest in neuroscience and subsequently completed a PhD in Neuropathology at both Imperial College London and the University of Hong Kong. I have gained research expertise in the field of neurodegeneration and have developed a technique allowing us to visualise human brain tissues microscopically in 3D. With my research, I have developed an extensive collaboration across the UK, Hong Kong and Australia. I am now practising as a junior doctor in Prescot on Merseyside whilst continuing with my neuropathology research in London as an Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College. During my free time I still try to keep up with piano and photography, interests that I developed during my time at Oundle.
Jimmy Taylor: After leaving Oundle, I went on to study French and Spanish at Newcastle University, spending a year abroad in Spain and travelling around South America. I moved to London in 2013, living with my old Bramston room-mate, Harry Parshall (B 09). It was pretty much like living in Bramston, only Harry’s cooking had somehow got even worse! After five years in London, I moved to Bristol with my girlfriend, Pauline, and currently work for a digital marketing agency. Through
the Ramblers, Oundle is still a huge part of my life. I captain our Old Ramblers cricket team and although we’re getting older, fatter and a lot worse at cricket, we still play a number of fixtures every year. We recently took two Ramblers teams on a tour of Sri Lanka and we play an Old Ramblers 20-20 tournament every summer at Ardingly College. It’s a great way of staying in touch with old schoolmates, thanks to the ongoing leadership and inspiration of Mr Philip Pedley. I’m the proud godfather to Ben (F 09) and Nat Cossor’s beautiful daughter, Lily, and am trying my best to protect her from having to watch Ipswich Town too often!
Oscar Wigginton: After university I moved down south and spent a year in Devon before going to Australia. I had previously spent time working in the Mediterranean as a doctor on a search and rescue team during the Syrian refugee crisis, and later scuba diving as the expedition medic for a group of marine scientists on a research expedition in the Caribbean. I'm also involved with a surfing doctor organisation and am looking forward to going away soon with them to the Mentawai Islands for a short stint of work and surfing, before returning back to work as an emergency medicine doctor at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
