After six months off last year to travel round South and Central America, Canada – including catching up with Zoe Rice (D 10) in Toronto – Bali, Australia and New Zealand, Angharad Marment (D 10) is enjoying being back at PwC as part of the sales and marketing team. She recently took on the role of leader of her business unit’s social committee, as well as leading a social media initiative. Angharad enjoyed catching up recently with Leonora Forrest (D 10) and Emma
Greenlees (D 10) in London.
I continue to see numerous OOs. I
went to Jim Eyre’s (B 77) 60th birthday last year. His architectural practice, Wilkinson Eyre, goes from strength to strength. Nick Kirkbride (Lx 77) is as busy as ever with his executive and non-executive roles. He continues to be involved with the Science Museum. Dermot Brady (Ldr 76) has recovered from a bout of cancer last year and Tim Cowan (Ldr 76) continues to work in the health sector whist spending a lot of time at
his house in France. Ian Lane (Ldr 77) seems to be up and down to London attending various gatherings and sporting events. Both my children – Tom (Ldr 07) and Rebecca (K 09) – continue to flourish doing jobs which I do not understand and didn’t exist when I was younger. My involvement with the School has waned since stepping down as a Governor. However, I will be President of the OO Club next year and look forward to welcoming as many as possible to all the events.
NEWS FROM HOME
Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, South & West Yorkshire
I write this column shortly after watching the thrilling Cricket World Cup final, which, as I watched the players walking through the Long Room at Lord’s, reminded me of the marvellous OO London Dinner we had there last November. What a long time ago that all seems now, but it was the concluding event of my year as your President, one in which I met many new faces, went to a number of new places, experienced the School at its best and I hope put something back into an establishment that means so much to both me and a number of members of my wider family. My sincere thanks to you all for all your support during my term of office.
Back to the important business of reporting from the Shires! Sam Clarke (S 11) writes with the fabulous news of another addition to his young family with the safe arrival of Arthur Andrew, born in January. Sam and his fiancée, Charlotte, got engaged last year with a view to getting married in 2020. Arthur is a younger brother to Adelaide Molly, born in 2017.
Staying with the younger respondents for this column, my eldest daughter, Isobel Ellis (Sn 14), emailed following the conclusion of her PGCE studies in Bath, where she
received an ‘outstanding’ grade, gaining her QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) as an academic music teacher. She took up a full-time post at a school in Greenwich in early September, another youngster leaving the hallowed county. She still keeps in touch and meets up with many OOs in her year group, in particular Fleur Arkell (Lx 14) and Emily Bainbridge (K 14). They recently had a reunion dinner in London with Pollyanna Duggan, Issy Clarke, Hannah Day, Ellie Miller and
Mimi Monteith (Sn 14), who are all planning another meeting to celebrate the 10th anniversary of them all starting in Sanderson – or five years since leaving!
Bob Harrap (B 68) writes for himself and for his younger family. Bob reckons that his recent retirement is a particular achievement – marking 50 years of being involved with the law – as a solicitor rather than at Her Majesty’s Pleasure! I see Bob regularly at our local hostelry, as well as enjoying great days in the field with other OOs at our local shoot. He is a regular member of our annual visit to the Lord’s Test match every summer – best not to ask either of us as to the state of the match after our extended lunch on the Saturday! He is looking forward to a busy social schedule in the autumn with his daughter – Bryony Harrap (N 08) – celebrating her 30th birthday in London, closely followed by his son, Jon Harrap (B 05), getting married in New York in November, an event that I dare say will have a splattering of OOs in attendance.
Also shooting in the same syndicate as Bob and I is Mike Haigh (Sc 87), who reports of regular meetings with fellow OOs Ian Lane (Ldr 77), Ben Jones (S 87) and Nigel
