MAJOR TURLE'S KNOT
(ALSO KNOWN AS
TURLE KNOT, AND SOMETIMES TURTLE KNOT)
ajor Turle, of Hampshire, England, popularised this knot as an angler's knot during the
M mid-nineteenth century. It is a useful knot for tying through objects which have an
'eye', or hole, which can then be suspended and stored.
Pass the
I working end
of the line
of the object. Take the working end
2 around the shank, or neck,
of the object and across the
standing part to make a loop.
\
Tuck the working
3 end through the loop
to make a half-hitch. .,
With the working end, tie
4 an overhand knot.
