   ~      In spite of its  name, this  is actually a hitch. 'Bend' comes from  the fact  that sailors 'bent' a
   ::C     rope to an anchor or spar, and the knot is  widely  used to moor a boat at a quayside, since it
          is secure in wet or slippery ropes.

                                                              2  down  and behind the
                                                              standing part.
