MANNISH BOY
by Muddy Waters
Key Amaj Tempo 110BPM
E A D G B E
This classic blues song has been covered by the likes of Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix and
the Rolling Stones since it's original release in 1955. This loop is so simple it could be done in
one bar! But to make it easier we'll be spacing it over two.
This song has an 'acapella' intro, meaning that it starts with vocals and no instruments.
You can pre-record your loop so you can play it after the intro like in 'Hey Joe', but as
the loop is so short I like building it up live. Or you can leave it out all together, it's up to
you.
We'll be starting with the percussion. On the original recording the kick drum sounds big
and punchy. We can replicate this by tapping on either the soundboard or the bridge a
little harder than usual. I suggest you experiment with this first to find the guitar's
'sweet spot' for the kick effect you like.
