Guidelines for Art Donations: What to Know
We are grateful for your interest, but please understand that MUSC Children’s and Women’s Health cannot accept all donations. As an academic medical center, we cannot fully protect artwork from unforeseen damage, vandalism or theft. Because of regular changes and updates to our facilities, we cannot guarantee that donated artwork will remain in a given permanent location.
We require that art, materials, and framing meet established infection control, safety, and sustainability requirements. We are generally unable to accept rugs and large, unframed textiles. We cannot display art with exposed paper, or crafts made of tactile, dust-catching materials such as banners or ceramics.
Reframing of donated art may be necessary to meet hospital health and environmental standards. Works on paper, collages, mixed-media, photographs and textiles must be professionally mounted and framed under museum glass or acrylic, using archival materials. Costs of framing, installation, maintenance, and signage for artwork may require additional donated funds to the MUSC Children’s Hospital and Women’s Pavilion Fund.
