A new beginning
When you go to a new club, you want to make an instant impression, and that’s exactly what Ryan did when he joined Ipswich Town on loan.
Ryan often points to his loan spell at Portman Road for giving him the con dence to go on to become the player he is today – and it started at Gri n Park in the rst game of the season in / .
The former Aberdeen man played a part in the rst goal of the day, when he cut inside from the right and walloped a shot against the post, allowing Kevin Bru to tap in.
Ryan then made it 2-0 by tapping in inside the area – his fth goal in the second tier.
It was a hugely impressive display, but the only negative for the Scot was the result.
He came o after minutes, but Brentford equalised in the nd and th minutes and Andre Gray and England international James Tarkowski both scored.
A crazy game – but one which set up a fantastic season for Ryan!
Announcing yourself to the world
AFC Bournemouth 4 Liverpool 3 December 4th 2016
The fans hadn’t seen a lot of the Scottish winger in the top ight, but he put his stamp on a Premier League epic.
It truly was a game for the ages, as Liverpool raced into a two goal lead to silence the home crowd.
It seemed a comeback would be impossible against Jurgen Klopp’s side, but Ryan gave the side a glimmer of hope after coming on in the 55th minute.
Seconds later, he won a penalty after being brought down by James Milner – Callum Wilson converted and that moment gave the place a lift.
Emre Can made it - , but Ryan wasn’t done. His rst Premier League goal came to make it - with a brilliant -yard curling e ort.
A goal and a penalty win, you’d be pleased with that right!? But Ryan was a constant threat and provided another massive moment in the match.
Jack Wilshere gave him the ball out wide and he swung in a brilliant cross for the left - Steve Cook scored a brilliant goal but Ryan’s cross was sublime.
