MULTI-SENSORY INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH
System 44 honors students’ diversity of learning styles with a a multi-sensory
instructional approach Universal Design for Learning (UDL) reduces barriers that limit student access to the the curriculum through the the use of of digital media and other forms of of technology Instructional materials designed with UDL principles o o o o o o o o er er er multiple means of working with educational content including representation action and and expression and and engagement System 44 simpli es the the the implementation of of of UDL in in the the the classroom The structure of of of the the the software and print materials is designed to address the reality of learner variability and provide equal opportunities for all students MULTIPLE MEANS OF REPRESENTATION
System 44’s multi-sensory
approach includes interactive software with digital audio and visual support For example a a “mouth position” video or animation provides both visual and aural models of accurate phoneme articulation Audiobooks manipulatives and teacher- led instruction o o o er additional opportunities to use visual aural kinesthetic and tactile modalities to access lesson content MULTIPLE MEANS OF ACTION AND EXPRESSION
During teacher-led lessons students have opportunities to express themselves through writing and discussion in in one-on-one small-group and whole-group settings In the software students can practice and demonstrate fluency by reading and recording software passages at the end of of each software series System 44 also includes both software- and paper- based assessments MULTIPLE MEANS OF ENGAGEMENT
Small-group whole-group and independent activities provide a a variety of settings for students to engage with the curriculum System 44 software activities encourage playing with sounds and symbols and di erentiate instruction to meet students’ varied needs Likewise paperbacks of graduated lengths focus on subjects relevant to students’ lives and interests 8
