Alphabet Activity
Decodable Reader 1
Have children touch their toes as they recite the alphabet.
Have children identify the medial sound in words.
Lesson 12
Objective: To use kinesthetic response to practice the alphabet ● Have children stand where they can move around freely.
“Let’s say the alphabet as we touch our toes. We’ll say a letter each time we bend over.”
➤ Alternate Activity: Recite the alphabet together, karate punching the air once for each letter.
Phonological/Phonemic Awareness
Objective: To identify medial sounds
“I’ll say some words. Raise your hand if you can tell me their
medial, or middle, sound.”
● Point to your mouth as you say the following: “Mad. Cat. Fan.”
● Slowly repeat the words until most children have raised their hands. “What sound do you hear in the medial position?” /a/
