Daily Letter and Sound Review
Objective: To practice letter recognition and letter sounds
➤ Reminder: Always keep Picture Card 13 behind Picture Card 12 to
remind children that the letter s makes two sounds.
● Quickly review Letter Cards 1–9. Have children name each letter.
● Quickly review Picture Cards 1–13. Have children name each keyword
and sound.
Spelling Review
Objective: To practice spelling letter sounds
● Seat children where they can write comfortably.
● Distribute Worksheet 12. Make sure children turn to the correct side.
● Quickly review the following ten spelling sounds. Children should echo the sounds, name the letters that make them, and write the responses on the lines by #1–#10.

Using the gingersnaps, ask children if they would like a snap or snaps.

Have gingersnaps ready. They will be referred to as “snaps” for
today’s lesson.
“You look really hungry today. I should give you something to eat before we begin. I have some gingersnaps.”
Offer each child a choice between a snap or snaps. If the child answers “snap,” give him/her one. If the child answers “snaps,” give him/her a handful.
➤ Reminder: You may choose instead to review the ten sounds children most need to practice; or let children use their own paper as you review the entire Spelling Deck.
