Distribute
Worksheet 18.
Quickly review the Spelling Deck.
• Repeat with the following:

• Make sure each child has a turn. Use only words that begin with /l/, /o/, /g/, /h/, or /t/. Provide help as necessary.
Daily Letter and Sound Review
Objective: To practice letter recognition and letter sounds
• Quickly review Letter Cards 1–5. Have children name each letter.
• Quickly review Picture Cards 1–5. Have children name each keyword and sound.
Spelling Sound Review
Objective: To practice spelling letter sounds
• Seat children in small groups where they can write comfortably.
• Distribute Worksheet 18.
• Quickly review Spelling Cards 1–5. Children should echo the sounds, name the letters that make them, and write the appropriate responses on lines 1–5.
• If necessary, write each letter on the board after children echo and name it. (Allow time for them to write the letter independently before providing any hints.)
• Check children’s worksheets once a week. These written responses usually provide an accurate picture of each child’s ability to spell individual sounds.
Application and Continual Review
Have children circle the capital T ’s in the box. Count them together.
Have children identify pictures, beginning sounds, and letters, and then write the letters under the pictures.

“Circle all of the capital T’s.”
When children finish, count the T’s together.
Have children circle other letters taught so far for additional practice.
