because in the Roman calendar it was the
seventh month. The Romans believed that the
month of September was looked after by the
god of the fire and forge – Vulcan.
❖ American college and professional football
begins during the month of September (for
all you Sportsball fans!).
❖ The last day of September in any year always
falls on a different day of the week from the
last day of any other month.
