羅老師, it has been my tremendous good fortune to have

known you not only as a teacher in painting but more so as an

inspiring humanist. In 1995, you accepted me as a pupil even

though I had no foundation in calligraphy and little Chinese

learning. Born of Cantonese parents in Africa, I regarded and

still regard myself as culturally deaf-mute in Chinese. When

you shared a verse or a poem, I often drew a blank. But you
understood my burning thirst to learn and you took me in

              without reservation.

For seven years until your retirement, your unwavering

patience guided me through the rich and colourful world of

Chinese art and literature. Despite my slow progress, you

always encouraged me with a smile and remained passionate

              to your art.
Years have gone by, master-disciple relationship grew into

a lasting and precious friendship. I will always treasure what I

learned from you of our cultural heritage. I will always be

guided by the profound humanism that you have imparted.

                                                                 Your loving pupil and friend,
