 Bishop William D. Byrne ’82 Named Bishop of Springfield, MA
Bishop William D. Byrne ’82 was named the new bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, Massachusetts on October 14.
Pope Francis chose Bishop Byrne to
serve as the tenth bishop of the Diocese
of Springfield, which serves Catholics in Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire counties in the state of Massachusetts.
Since 2015, Bishop Byrne served as the pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Potomac, Maryland. He has served the Archdiocese
of Washington, D.C. in many capacities since his ordination. Rev. James R. Van Dyke, S.J., Georgetown Prep’s President,
noted on the Bishop’s appointment, “Bishop Byrne has been a wonderful presence across the Archdiocese and particularly in
our corner of Montgomery County. I am particularly grateful for
his service to and solicitude for Prep and for our students in our sacramental ministries. He will be sorely missed here, but I am happy for the people of Springfield; they are getting a great pastor.”
Bishop Byrne was ordained and installed as the 10th Bishop of Springfield on December 14 at Saint Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield.
 Tabacco ’01 Featured in Washington Post Article on Sports Doctors Joining the COVID-19 Treatment Effort
Dr. John Tabacco ’01 MD, MPH, CAQSM, a physician at PMA Health Sports Medicine and Internal Medicine, was featured in The Washington Post’s article “With games on hold, sports doctors
and trainers are joining the coronavirus treatment effort” on April 7, 2020.
Dr. Tabacco is a member of the NFL Physician Society and is board certified in both Sports Medicine and Internal Medicine and treats all manners of athletic health from joint
pain to asthma. Dr. Tabacco is a team physician for Georgetown Prep and George Washington University athletics.
David Chang ’95 Donates to Hospitality Workers after ’Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ Win
David Chang ’95, the founder of Momofuku and host of “Ugly Delicious,” is the first celebrity to win the $1 million prize on ABC’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” He is donating
his winnings to the Southern Smoke Foundation, a Houston-based crisis relief organization for people working in the hospitality industry.
Chang used his last lifeline to phone a friend to help him answer the million-dollar question, “Although he
and his wife never touched a light switch for fear of being shocked, who was the first president to have electricity in the White House?”

Redmond ’15 Drafted by the
St. Louis Cardinals (MLB)
Chandler Redmond ’15 was drafted in the 32nd round (965 overall) of the Major League Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. Redmond, who played for four years at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina, broke the school’s all-time homerun record (50) and single season homerun record (18).
Terence Netter ’47 (D.) Featured in New York Times Documentary
erence Netter ’47 (d.) and his wife,
Therese Franzese, were featured
in a New York Times documentary “A Priest Who Left the Church for Love.”
Netter spent 15 years as a Jesuit priest and left the Society of Jesus in 1968. He was a gifted artist and college professor.
Netter passed away at age 89 on
June 27, 2018 at his home in Setauket, New York.
