2.4 Strategic Goals
The overall goal of our Strategy for the period 2019–2025 is as follows:
To address high priority problems and challenges of tropical and subtropical agriculture and natural resources in Florida through science-based research knowledge, teaching, and extension support.
We will pursue five (5) broad-based Strategic Pri- orities that are fundamental to our vision, mission, and future success to achieving our Strategic Goal. The first priority is aimed specifically at executing the mission of TREC, while the other four priorities are aimed at supporting our mission. We elaborate on each priority listed below.
TREC was established to assist the local communi- ties, which is central to what we do. Consequent- ly, our efforts will be primarily toward developing science-based solutions through discovery and engagement with our stakeholders to address lo- cal issues. We will enhance our capability to con- tinue to deliver high quality programming across the three missions of the University in research, extension, and teaching that is at the cutting edge of science and education enterprises.
Accordingly, we will reorganize our existing pro- grams into three high impact core programs: Ag- ricultural Innovation, Natural Resource Conserva- tion, and Climate and Environmental Stewardship. These three programs, we believe, will enable us to provide invaluable support to local growers, homeowners, and other stakeholders by providing science-based solutions to solve real community challenges, solutions that will be pertinent interna- tionally to other tropical regions as well as temper- ate regions that are becoming more tropical due to climate change (tropicalization), thus enabling us to have local focus with a global reach.
STRATEGIC PRIORITY 1:
Enhance Quality of Programs in Research, Extension, and Teaching
