Broad Goals
• Diversify income streams and manage resourc- es for a more sustainable financial base.
• Mobilize additional external resources to sup- port TREC programs.
• Expand sources and levels of funding for grad- uate students and postdoctoral students.
• Increase the number of support personnel.
• Improve equipment and facility infrastructure.
Outcomes
The outcomes of this priority will include a notice- able diversity in sources and an increase in the quantity of funds obtained from non-tradition- al sources. TREC will have a vibrant and engaged graduate student/postdoc community. There will be a noticeable improvement in TREC’s facilities and equipment to fully support high-quality re- search and extension programs, and our increas- ing number of faculty, graduate students, post- docs, and staff.
Given our limited human and financial resources, we will place greater emphasis on strengthening and expanding our strategic partnerships at all lev- els in order to mobilize resources; develop more transdisciplinary approaches; and improve syner- gies within UF, and locally, nationally, and inter- nationally. These partnerships would allow us to leverage physical, human, and financial resources to complement our own resources and expertise, enhancing our ability to compete and contribute to the local and global agricultural economy by strengthening our new and existing programs to address new challenges in a more informed and in- novative manner.
Collaboration within UF
Our efforts at collaboration within UF will seek to strengthen closer cooperation with other centers, departments, and colleges of the University sys- tem, as this is critical for achieving UF’s objectives in food and agriculture and remaining a leading in- stitution in these areas within Florida and the wid- er system at the national level. We will engage in a process of reflection and dialogue with the ob- jective of strengthening the university’s role, con- tributing to the sustainability of the environment and the food production system through best
