Dogs In The Land of Lions
1 x 60’, 2018, HD
In the hilltops of Zimbabwe’s Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve, Puzzles and Jigsaw are attempting to raise a family without the help of ‘the pack’ – a course fraught with dangers for these rare Wild dogs. But against the odds, the pair manage to keep their offspring alive. In need of better shelter the pack move to a hilltop cave where Puzzles soon gives birth to her second litter. Jigsaw must now hunt for everyone. But lions are also on the prowl. One afternoon Jigsaw fails to return, leaving Puzzles all by herself. But she is still unable to leave her newest cubs. The only course of action is to send the older dogs out to hunt. They are inexperienced, without adult supervision they may lose concentration, lose their prey and perhaps even their lives – to the lions. They hunt for more than their family’s survival. Failure is not an option.

The nature of our planet – its beauty, complexity and challenges – is bound to the elements. Geological marvels, spectacular weather, mysteries of the plant and animal kingdoms; all inextricably linked and shaped by air, land and water. Each of the three episodes follows the thread of life, entwined with the corresponding element. Life-giving air; the building material that is land; omnipresent water: they all make up the nature of our planet.
More beautiful than butterflies, better fliers than hummingbirds and with behaviour as intriguing and complex as mammals or birds, dragonflies and damselflies are the ultimate insects. Filmed in unprecedented detail, we’ll explore how dragon and damselflies hold and defend territories; work together in strict hierarchy; and even predict their prey’s movements. A special film depicting some pretty special animals.

When most people think of North American prairies, they imagine symmetrical lines of corn, canola and wheat all the way to the horizon. But just beyond the croplands lies an unknown wilderness. Before Europeans settled, the Great Plains thundered with the sound of enormous herds of bison and antelope on the move. Every year, half a million sandhill cranes converge on the Platte River in Nebraska. They’re heading north along their annual migration route. On the ground, a family of foxes eke out a living amongst the sage brush while Pronghorn antelope learn to navigate the crop fields. The dust of the prairies is being thrown up once more, as bull bison lock horns in a battle for the right to breed. The grizzly bears – driven off the land in the 1800s – have returned. Time is slowly turning back on The Great Plains of America.
