For almost three years now, political news from the US has been viewed by Europeans with suspicion, and sometimes even disbelief, Trump is shocking the world with relentless scandals, riots and rude insults. From personal threats against Alec Baldwin to trivializing massacres, from racism to crooked deals, from turning against friendly states to doubting NATO. And in Europe, people cannot believe what they’re seeing - as America, the former friend and ally, drifts further away. Worse still, America sometimes even seems like an opponent, a potential enemy. And more is to come: it is election time in the US and the big campaigns are under way. From here on, everything will only get more intense, more bitter and even uglier. In an extraordinary long-term project, we embark on a journey past Trumps rants and the usual headlines. We will show how America really thinks and feels by shifting the focus away from politicians and commentators and on to the American people. Alongside footage from the black lives matter protests and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we dive deeper than ever before. Across five episodes we follow 15-20 protagonists as they voice their fears, hopes and dreams in the build up to the 2020 US elections.
Born in Auschwitz is a film about inherited family trauma, that seeks the possibility of healing in a parent-child relationship. In May 1944 a young Jewish woman arrived in Auschwitz. She was 2 months pregnant and was immediately selected by Dr. Mengele for medical experiments. Her daughter, Angela, was born weighing 1 kg and had to be hidden for five long weeks before the liberation of the death camp. She not only inherited the trauma of the Holocaust but passed it on to her own daughter Kati, who is trying to prevent the same trauma being passed onto her own children. Mother and daughter are dealing with the past, traveling to places they never wanted to return to, meeting people they never imagined connecting with, from German psychotherapists to Pope Francis. The directors follow the story of these fascinating women as they discover the Holocaust’s long shadow on three generations.

Music. We love it. We need it. But where does it come from? Deep inside the composer, of course, but the places where the composer was born, lived and worked also have a huge influence on his music. And the greatest names of classical music made their lives and wrote their music in some of the most fascinating places on earth. In ‘Classical Destinations: The Great Composers’ we take you to see these cities, to hear the sounds, and to meet the real people behind the music which has shaped our world. This series introduces us to six brilliant musical minds and the places they called home, this is your passport to a deeper, more intimate understanding of these composers and the places out of which their sublime music grew.
