Willie Theison is an ‘elephant whisperer’. Follow his story at the Pittsburgh Zoo, where he has formed intimate relationships with elephants, some of whom were considered so dangerous, that no one else would take them on. This remarkable film documents Theison’s beautiful relationship with nature at its most dangerous, and its most graceful.

Wildlife biologist Randall Jay Moore first came across African circus elephants over 30 years ago near his home in Oregon. He successfully shipped a pair back to Africa and spent a year teaching them how to live on their own in the wild. Since then he has rescued African elephants from confinement all over the world.

Can you imagine a life without lions, cheetahs and leopards? Fifty years ago, there were more than half a million lions in Africa. Today there are fewer than 20,000. With illegal and legal hunting ever prevalent, a world without these majestic predators could soon become a reality. This series gives a new perspective on the problems suffered by the big cats in this changing era in Africa.
As Namibia’s worst drought on record grips Etosha National Park, the fate of an extraordinary band of bull elephants hangs in the balance. Scientist Caitlin O’Connell, one of the world’s experts of elephant behaviour, monitors the already precarious situation. And when the giant leader of the group eventually goes missing, the battle for his crown begins.

The islands of Malaysia are jewels of nature: ancient rainforests cascade down mountains into crystal clear seas. From silvered langurs caring for their bright orange babies and ants tending their herds of mealy bugs, to boisterous mudskippers and a noisy fruit bat roost - this is nature at its most extraordinary! Innovative photography allows us to explore the tiny world of insects, and the beautiful colours of the coral reefs.

Presenter Michaela Strachan investigates the endangered wildlife of South Africa. Michaela is on a mission to track down endangered species wherever they may be, from the elusive riverine rabbit to the rowdy but vulnerable western leopard toad. Species that require massive territories, like African wild dogs, are now the most endangered mammals in Africa, and it is a race against time to save them before they are lost forever.
